Der Europäische Innovationsrat (EIC) wird künftig
Investitionen in Verteidigungs- und Dual-Use-Technologien bereitstellen.
Dies markiert einen strategischen Wendepunkt in der europäischen
Innovationspolitik. Künftig werden der EIC Accelerator und EIC STEP Scale
Up Unternehmen unterstützen, die Dual-Use-Technologien entwickeln. Die
Bewerbung erfolgt gemäß den Regeln des EIC Accelerator und des EIC STEP
Scale Up. Hinzu kommt der neue EIC STEP Defence-Call, eine gezielte
Ausschreibung, die speziell auf bahnbrechende Innovationen im
Verteidigungsbereich ausgerichtet ist.
Deutsche Unternehmen erfolgreich in der jüngsten Runde des EIC Accelerator
Der Europäische Innovationsrat (EIC) hat die Ergebnisse
der jüngsten Bewertungsrunde bekannt gegeben: 38 hochinnovative Start-ups
und KMU wurden für eine Förderung ausgewählt. In der finalen
Interviewphase konnten sich diese Unternehmen gegen insgesamt 87
Finalisten durchsetzen. Die ausgewählten Unternehmen verteilen sich auf 16
EU-Mitgliedstaaten und assoziierte Länder. Deutschland belegt bei der
Anzahl der geförderten Projekte den 3. Platz, dicht hinter Frankreich und
dem Vereinigten Königreich. Ebenfalls stark vertreten sind Schweden und
die Schweiz.
Neue Innovationsplattform der Europäischen Kommission
Mit der neuen „EU Innovation Platform“ schafft die
Europäische Kommission ein zentrales Ökosystem, das Innovatoren,
Investoren und Dienstleistungsanbieter an einem Ort vernetzt. Das Ziel:
Spitzenforschung und bahnbrechende Ideen schneller in die reale Praxis und
auf den Markt zu bringen. Die Plattform fungiert als strategischer
Katalysator und unterstützt Akteure in jeder Phase ihrer Entwicklung
dabei, den Weg zur Marktreife entscheidend zu beschleunigen.
EIC Impact Report 2026: Europa wird zum globalen Deep-Tech-Hotspot
Der kürzlich veröffentlichte EIC Impact Report 2026 zieht
Bilanz: Europa wandelt sich laut Report in ein hochattraktives Ökosystem,
in dem Tech-Gründer ihre globalen Unternehmen nicht nur starten, sondern
auch erfolgreich skalieren. Dank wachsender Investitionen, starker
grenzüberschreitender Vernetzung und einer immer reiferen
Innovationspipeline bleibt das Spitzen-Know-how auf dem Kontinent.
Die wichtigsten Erfolgsindikatoren des Berichts im Überblick:

15,5 Milliarden Euro an Folgeinvestitionen konnten von EIC-unterstützten Unternehmen bislang mobilisiert werden.

Allein im vergangenen Jahr sind drei neue Deep-Tech-Unicorns (Start-ups mit einer Bewertung von über 1 Milliarde Dollar) aus dem Portfolio hervorgegangen.

Es wurden zwölf Finanzierungsrunden mit einem Volumen von jeweils über 100 Millionen Euro erfolgreich abgeschlossen.

Die Verlagerungsrate ins außereuropäische Ausland liegt bei 1 % – ein Zeichen für die hohe Standortqualität und die Bindungskraft der europäischen Förderung.

Die Skalierungsaktivitäten und die Expansion zwischen den einzelnen EU-Mitgliedstaaten haben an Fahrt aufgenommen.
Spitzenforschung im Mittelstand: Die Förderinitiative „KMU-innovativ“
Kleine und mittlere Unternehmen (KMU) sind in vielen
Bereichen Vorreiter des technologischen Fortschritts. Mit der
Förderinitiative KMU-innovativ unterstützt das BMFTR Spitzenforschung im
deutschen Mittelstand.
Das Beratungsangebot KMU-innovativ unterstützt auch jene, die sich erstmals um Fördermittel bewerben. Das Antragsverfahren ist schnell und auf KMU zugeschnitten.

Dual-Use-Option im EIC Accelerator
Für den Start der neuen Dual-Use-Option im EIC Accelerator
gilt folgende Zeitleiste: Kurzanträge können ab sofort eingereicht werden.
Das aktualisierte „Short Proposal“-Template ist bereits online verfügbar.
Das dazugehörige „Full Proposal“-Template mit den neuen Dual-Use-Kriterien
wird voraussichtlich am 9. Juli 2026 veröffentlicht. Am 2. September 2026
steht dann der erste offizielle Stichtag für die Einreichung der
vollständigen Anträge an.

The EIC opens up to defence and dual-use technologies
In the future, the European Innovation Council (EIC) will
provide investment in defence and dual-use technologies. This marks a
strategic turning point in European innovation policy. Moving forward, the
EIC Accelerator and EIC STEP Scale Up programmes will support companies
that develop dual-use technologies. Applications must be submitted in
accordance with the EIC Accelerator and EIC STEP Scale Up rules.
Additionally, the new EIC STEP Defence Call is a targeted call for
proposals aimed at groundbreaking innovations in the defence sector.
German companies successful in the latest round of the EIC Accelerator
The European Innovation Council (EIC) has announced the
results of its most recent evaluation round. Thirty-eight highly
innovative start-ups and SMEs were selected for funding. These companies
prevailed against a total of 87 finalists in the final interview stage.
The selected companies are spread across 16 EU member states and
associated countries. Germany ranks third in terms of the number of funded
projects, closely behind France and the United Kingdom. Sweden and
Switzerland are also well represented.
The European Commission’s new innovation platform
The European Commission is creating a central ecosystem
called the “EU Innovation Platform” that brings innovators, investors, and
service providers together in one place. The goal is to bring cutting-edge
research and groundbreaking ideas to the real world and market more
quickly. The platform supports stakeholders at every stage of development,
significantly accelerating their path to market readiness.
EIC Impact Report 2026: Europe is becoming a global deep-tech hotspot
The recently published EIC Impact Report 2026 takes stock:
According to the report, Europe is transforming into a highly attractive
ecosystem where tech founders can not only launch their global companies,
but also successfully scale them. Thanks to growing investment, strong
cross-border networking, and an increasingly mature innovation pipeline,
cutting-edge expertise is staying in Europe.

EIC-supported companies have mobilized €15.5 billion in follow-on investment so far.

Last year alone, three new deep-tech unicorns (start-ups valued at over one billion dollars) emerged from the portfolio.

Twelve funding rounds, each with a volume of over 100 million euros, were successfully completed.

The rate of relocation to countries outside Europe is 1 percent — a sign of the high quality of the business environment and the retention power of European funding.

Scaling activities and expansion across individual EU member states have gained momentum.
Germany’s 'KMU-innovativ' Initiative for SMEs
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are at the
forefront of technological progress in many sectors. Through the
‘KMU-innovativ’ funding initiative, the BMFTR supports cutting-edge
research in the German SME sector.
The ‘KMU-innovativ’ advisory service also supports those applying for funding for the first time. The application process is quick and tailored to SMEs.

New dual-use option in the EIC Accelerator
The following timetable applies to the launch of the new
dual-use option in the EIC Accelerator. Short proposals can be submitted
immediately. The updated "Short Proposal" template is already available
online. The 'Full Proposal' template, which incorporates the new dual-use
criteria, is expected to be published on July 9, 2026. The first official
deadline for submitting full proposals is September 2, 2026.

This webinar is intended for innovative SMEs, deep-tech
start-ups, and scale-ups, as well as stakeholders from the security and
defence ecosystem. In order to bolster Europe’s technological
independence, the European Innovation Council (EIC) is expanding the scope
of the EIC Accelerator and EIC STEP Scale Up programmes to include
dual-use technologies. Additionally, the EIC is offering a funding
instrument for defence innovations through the EIC STEP Scale Up Defence
programme. By doing so, the EIC is creating new incentives for the defence
sector.
These changes create new funding opportunities for
innovative German start-ups, scale-ups, and SMEs. As the National Contact
Point (NCP) for the EIC, we will provide a brief overview of these
developments in this webinar.
Since projects in this field often involve sensitive
technologies, we are pleased to offer individual, confidential
